Campus Parking for OLLI Members

Effective August 19, 2024, UNC Asheville’s on-campus parking is enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.

OLLI members who visit campus regularly are required to purchase an annual non-resident community member parking permit, valid from August 1 (or the date of purchase) through July 31. Members may purchase two permits per household; the second permit is available for a discounted price during fall and spring terms.

Campus parking is enforced using license-plate recognition technology to determine permit validity. For this reason, your vehicle’s license plate must be visible from the travel lane for the license plate to be visible for enforcement; in most cases, this means that your vehicle must be parked nose-in. Failure to display your license plate in this manner can result in a citation.

Cost 2024-2025

For OLLI members, the cost of UNC Asheville annual parking permits is subsidized by OLLI and prorated during the year:

  • August 1, 2024-July 31, 2025: first permit $125, second permit $60
  • February 10-July 31, 2025: first permit $75, second permit $40
  • May 5-July 31, 2025: first permit $30

Purchase Instructions

Step 1: Purchase your annual permit(s) through the OLLI online registration system

You must have a valid OLLI membership to purchase an annual permit. If you do not have a membership, add one to your cart before adding a permit.

  • Log into the OLLI online registration system.
  • Under OLLI MEMBERSHIP & PARKING, select which permit(s) you need: FIRST PARKING PERMIT and/or SECOND PARKING PERMIT.
  • Complete the payment process.
  • Before logging out, click on ACCOUNT in the main menu, choose MY PROFILE and make a note of your account/student ID number. This number can also be found towards the top of your purchase receipt email.

Step 2: Register your vehicle

Wait one business day before this next step.

  • Go to UNC Asheville’s parking portal.
  • Click LOGIN in the upper-right corner.
  • Select ACCOUNT #/LAST NAME as your login method.
  • Log in using your student ID number and last name (see step 1 above). No password is required.
  • If prompted, enter the email address where you would like to receive your confirmation email and your phone number, then click CONFIRM.
  • Click PERMITS, then click ORDER PERMITS, then select 2024-2025 ANNUAL NON-RESIDENT COMMUNITY MEMBER.
  • Click ADD VEHICLE, fill in your vehicle information (i.e. license plate, state, year, make, model, color). Click on the checkbox to agree to the terms of service, then click ADD PERMIT TO CART.
  • Review your order for any inaccuracies, then click CHECKOUT to complete your order.

As soon as you complete step 1 and step 2 above, your annual permit is valid. You will not receive a paper permit or sticker. Your permit is linked to your license plate.

Second Parking Permit

OLLI members may purchase a second permit in their OLLI account for another person living in their household for a discounted price. When you make this purchase, you will be asked to provide the second driver’s contact information during the checkout/payment process (see step 1 above). The office will notify the purchaser when the second permit is ready to be registered in UNC Asheville’s parking portal (see step 2 above).

The second permit holder will need to register their vehicle in their own parking account in UNC Asheville’s parking portal, as each permit holder can only register one vehicle per account in UNC Asheville’s parking portal.

Changing Vehicles

Drivers with valid annual permits can use the MODIFY ACCOUNT VEHICLES feature in their UNC Asheville parking account to:

  • Make a temporary permit change to a substitute vehicle for a short duration, such as for when your primary vehicle is being repaired.
  • Make a permanent permit change to a new vehicle and/or to change your vehicle registration (license plate, state).

Visitor Parking Permit

All visitors must have a permit to park on UNC Asheville’s campus. Visitor permits are for use only by occasional visitors to campus. Read more about visitor parking and rates, and register for visitor permits through UNC Asheville’s parking services site.

Electric Vehicle Charging Permits

You will need an additional EV permit to use the charging stations on campus. This permit is available to individuals who already have a current annual parking permit. Register and pay for electric vehicle permits through UNC Asheville’s parking portal.

Motorcycle/Moped Permits

Parking permits are required for mopeds and motorcycles. Register and pay for motorcycle/moped permits through UNC Asheville’s parking portal.

Where to Park

Those with an annual or visitor parking permit may park in any space or lot on campus designated as “non-resident student” or “all permits.” See the campus map on UNC Asheville’s website for parking lots and designations. Do not park in any other type of space or lot. Drivers with a UNC Asheville annual or visitor parking permit AND a valid handicapped hangtag or license plate may park in any handicapped-designated space in any lot on campus.

Alternatives to Parking

Inquire at the OLLI office about Asheville Rides Transit (ART) discount pricing for older adults. Free University shuttles are available around campus; the blue shuttle will stop at the Reuter Center upon request when OLLI is in session.

Citations and Fines

UNC Asheville’s parking enforcement officers utilize network-connected devices to enforce parking. Electronic tickets are issued in lieu of paper citations when possible. Citation notices are sent to the email address associated with the vehicle being cited. Only in the event when a vehicle’s information is not on file will a paper ticket be left on the vehicle. Review a list of current parking fines.
