Partnership Programs

Please note that effective August 19, 2024, you must have either a UNC Asheville 2024-2025 annual parking permit or a visitor’s permit to park on campus 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Visit the Campus Parking for OLLI Members page for instructions on how to purchase an OLLI-subsidized annual parking permit. Daily and monthly visitor permits must be purchased through the UNC Asheville parking site; OLLI does not sell visitor permits.

Asheville Museum of History

The mission of the Asheville Museum of History is to preserve and promote the history and legacy of Western North Carolina through interpretation, education, collection and collaboration. Throughout the year, the Asheville Museum of History hosts select panel discussions on timely, community topics and to educate and inspire curiosity about WNC history and culture. Asheville Symphony Orchestra

The Asheville Symphony Orchestra performs and promotes symphonic music for the benefit, enjoyment and education of the people of Western North Carolina. Astronomy Club of Asheville

The Astronomy Club of Asheville is dedicated to helping people of all ages understand and enjoy astronomy at all levels of interest. OLLI members may attend club meetings featuring an interesting lineup of speakers, as well as stargazes, with club members on hand to advise and assist them in the basics of astronomy and the techniques of observing celestial phenomena. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 7-9 p.m. in the Manheimer Room (102) and online via Zoom. The Autumn Players/Readers Theatre Showcase

The Autumn Players of Asheville Community Theatre bring seasoned talents to the forefront with script-in-hand readings, emphasizing story and character. The Readers Theatre Showcase blends classic and lesser-known works for accessible theatrical experiences. A testament to the enduring spirit of theatre, the Autumn Players capture audiences with both time-honored tales and fresh narratives. The Autumn Players’ Friday and Saturday performances take place at ACT, with Sunday performances at the Reuter Center in the Manheimer Room (102). Blue Ridge Audubon

Blue Ridge Audubon is the local chapter of the National Audubon Society. Its mission is to protect birds and the places they depend on, believing that a world in which birds thrive is a world that benefits all living things. By engaging the public through educational programs, outreach and birding events, they raise awareness of the critical role of birds in the natural environment and the joy they bring to people’s lives. Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association

The Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association (CNPA) was founded in 1992 to promote nature photography in the Carolinas, to help conserve and preserve the diverse natural ecosystems in the Carolinas and to educate others interested in nature and wildlife photography. The CNPA-Asheville Region’s goal is to develop a community that will preserve, celebrate and create a sense of appreciation for the beauty of nature through photography. Activities in the Asheville region include monthly meetings, photo outings, seminars, workshops, exhibits, photo contests and image critiques. The Common Word Community Read brings the UNC Asheville community together each semester around a shared text to engage in a collective educational experience that features lectures and discussions in a welcoming and respectful environment. Council on Aging of Buncombe County

In workshops presented by the Council on Aging in Buncombe County in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Insurance Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program, learn how Medicare works, the enrollment process, how to avoid penalties and ways to save money. Anyone who is ready to join Medicare or is a caregiver or family member helping older adults with the Medicare insurance may want to attend this informative session, held quarterly on Fridays in room 206 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. To register visit the Council on Aging of Buncombe County’s website or call 828.277.8288.

Death Café

Death Café is an engaging gathering with storytelling and conversation around a topic that is often avoided or feared. Participants discuss personal stories related to the death of loved ones, loss of jobs, relationships or marriage, or loss of parts of themselves. Programs are facilitated by Karen Sanders, Greg Lathrop and Saïd Osio from Third Messenger. Science Book Club

Come explore science with the Science Book Club. A reboot of the Greater Asheville Science-for-all Book Club (GASFAB), the Science Book Club offers exciting discussions of readable science books in all fields that broaden perspectives. The approach to book selection is decentralized: members are invited to suggest a book and serve as moderator for a session, responsible for preparing discussion questions to stimulate conversation. The Science Book Club typically meets on the fourth Monday of every other month in room 206 from 6:30-8 p.m. Contact Sue Studlar or Steve Thomas for more information and meeting dates.
